3v3 Rules
Everything you need to know before you step on the court. Our 3v3 format is fast, friendly, and built on mutual respect.
Game Format
- 3 players on the court per team
- Games are played on one half of the basketball court
- Games are 10 minutes long or until a team reaches 21 points (whichever happens first)
- The team with the most points at the end of the game wins
Scoring
- Baskets made inside the three-point line are worth 1 point
- Baskets made behind the three-point line are worth 2 points
- Free throws are worth 1 point
Starting the Game
- Games begin with a check ball behind the three-point line
- The offensive player checks the ball with a defender before play begins
After a Basket is Scored
- The team that scores gives up possession
- The opposing team starts with the ball from underneath the basket
- The ball must be cleared behind the three-point line before attacking
Fouls & Live Play
- This is a recreational league, so fouls are handled with honesty and mutual respect
- If a player is fouled and still scores, the basket counts
- The team that was fouled keeps possession with a check ball behind the three-point line
- If a foul is called but the player chooses to continue, the ball remains live
- Players are encouraged to communicate and keep the game flowing
Substitutions
- We are a relaxed and inclusive league, so substitutions can happen at any point during the game
- Please be mindful and avoid substitutions that create a clear advantage (for example, changing players only for a specific possession or situation)
- The goal is to keep games fun, fair, and competitive for everyone
Clearing the Ball
- After a change of possession, the ball must be taken behind the three-point line before a shot attempt
- Failing to clear the ball results in a turnover
